  Minimum of two grade C GCSEs (or equivalent) or adult entry (21 years of age) or Qantm Basic Media Certificate. Spoken and written English.

With this intensive and progressive course you will learn professional web design & development to a professional standard. You will also become knowledgeable about all emergent technologies and concepts, and proficient in commonly used software applications and cutting-edge techniques.

Students will learn industry-standard design software and will attain a strong foundation in graphic design (including the creative and technical principles of 2D animation) for screen and new media. On completion of the course students will have a thorough knowledge of both static and dynamic website design & development and a detailed insight into more entertaining site principles – for example, those used on interactive Flash websites used to sell films, services or products.

Other topics covered include online storage, future interactive design (looking at the wider impact of new media) and project management. Along the way students will become proficient in many aspects of computer use, from operating systems and development kits to web design packages and cross platform applications such as those used on mobile phones.

Course objectives

• Train students in current web technologies and languages. The course allows for fast adoption of new technologies and languages.
• To prepare students for roles as Project Manager, Graphic Designer, Web Designer, Web Programmer, Web Developer, PHP Developer, Web Games Author, Research and Development, Design agency owner, Multimedia Developer or Interactive Designer.
• Produce a range of projects to develop style and a portfolio.
• Allow students to become part of the web community and industry in UK and beyond.
• Enrich technical knowledge with theoretical topics such as art, design and traditional animation
• Prepare students for further study such as the Qantm Degree programme

• Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, and various open source software where possible
• XHTML, CSS, XML

• Human-Computer Interaction, Accessibility, Usability and user-testing
• Alongside the core practical skills, students learn enriching conceptual and theoretical topics such as Art, Design, Communication, Narrative and Scripting.
• At the end of the first year students have the opportunity to spend 8 weeks using their accumulated knowledge to produce a final project.
• Designs, websites and animations are produced throughout the course, adding to your portfolio.
